Income Tax department raids Dainik Bhaskar offices across the country

The income tax department on Thursday morning raided premises of the Dainik Bhaskar Group across the country in a suspected tax evasion case.

On Thursday, 22nd July, the Income Tax Department raided the premises of the Dainik Bhaskar Group across the country regarding a suspected tax evasion case. The searches were carried out in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan as well as Delhi.

However, it did not immediately share the details of the case or individuals who were searched regarding the matter.

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh commented on the search operation by linking the raids to the Dainik Bhaskar Group’s coverage on the Covid-19 crisis. He wrote in his tweet that “Through its reporting, Dainik Bhaskar has exposed the Modi regime’s monumental mismanagement of the COVID-19 pandemic. It is now paying the price. An Undeclared Emergency as Arun Shourie has said — is a Modified Emergency.”

Dainik Bhaskar published reports that criticized the government’s claims during the pandemic as increasing infections left people wandering for oxygen, hospital beds, and vaccines. The media group was covering the frightening sight of dead bodies of COVID victims floating in the river Ganga on the banks of towns in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. The reports also exposed bodies buried in shallow graves by the river in UP.

The Dainik Bhaskar Group – one of the largest newspaper groups in the country, publishes five newspapers with 65 editions in three languages– Hindi, Marathi and Gujarati.
