Scarlett Johansson, who is also known as Black Widow, had recently been in the headlines as she had filed a lawsuit against Disney. As per the report of ‘The Indian Express’, the lawsuit that has been filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, is about the contract that Johansson had signed when she agreed to star in a standalone Black Widow movie was breached when Disney decided on a hybrid theatrical and streaming release model for the movie. The lawsuit further alleges that Disney wanted to use the movie and ScarJo’s star power to promote Disney+, its streaming service.
But now, it seems that the case is gaining a lot of support from industry insiders and recently, as per the report of ‘Pinkvilla’, while speaking to ‘Variety’, a Hollywood agent informed Variety how Johansson could make impact things in the industry and claimed, “She might be able to change the rulebook” by going public with her legal battle against the studio. During the interview, the Hollywood agent also informed about the ones who are in support of Scarlett by saying, ” A lot of other actors are cheering for Scarlett and rooting her on. She has a lot of power and that makes this a visible conversation that puts Disney on the spot”.
The recent update regarding this case is that Johansson’s agent’s responded to Disney after they released a statement calling Scarlett’s lawsuit claim “sad and distressing.” The actress’ team fired back saying, “They have shamelessly and falsely accused Ms. Johansson of being insensitive to the global Covid pandemic. Disney has fully complied with Ms. Johansson’s contract and furthermore, the release of Black Widow on Disney+ with Premier Access has significantly enhanced her ability to earn additional compensation on top of the $20M she has received to date.”
