The decision by Delhi University to implement the National Education Policy beginning in the next academic year has prompted a protest by varsity staff on Tuesday.

The Standing Committee on Academic Matters authorised the policy’s implementation from 2022 to 2023, as well as the four-year undergraduate programme and several entries and exit choices for students, at its meeting on Monday.

The committee, on the other hand, postponed a discussion on the adoption of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) (MOOC).

To investigate the NEP’s implementation, the university organised a 42-member high-powered committee. The 42-member group also proposed that the university’s three-year undergraduate programme be maintained, but that a four-year degree programme be added, as well as one-year and two-year postgraduate programmes are implemented. This was agreed upon throughout the meeting.

The Standing Committee agreed to keep the three-year honours degree courses by incorporating them into the four-year honours degree and four-year honours degree with research. The committee also noted that “the quality of the university’s degree shouldn’t be jeopardised,” which the “current structure and workload, also because the inclusion of other courses,” should be preserved.
