I am well prepared and looking forward to it. We will try our best to glorify India.”
Manu Bhaker will be teaming up with Saurabh Choudhary in the 10 m pistol shooting event. When asked about their strategy for the Olympics, Bhaker replies, “Things are working better this way and you all have seen that. We will not change any strategy.”
As the COVID-19 pandemic has hit hard the sports world too and athletes faced it difficult to continue their practice in the field, we asked the same Manu Bhaker and she replies, “I am very happy with the support received from our system. I got constant support from OGQ, SAI & Sports Ministry. Also, my family, teachers, and friends supported me a lot in these hard times of COVID-19, so I didn’t face any problem at all.”
Manu Bhaker also opens up about her life, achievements and study:
Is it true that earlier you excelled yourself in other sports like martial art, boxing, tennis and skating? If yes, then how you got shifted to airgun shooting?
When I was in Class 10th, I started paying more attention to my studies than sports to get good grades. Hence my father suggested playing these sports, which were available in my school- Universal School Goria, Jhajjar.
There is a myth that girls from Haryana don’t get that much exposure to the outside world. So being from Haryana, have you ever faced the same situation?
My entire family, including my parents, are different and they have been always supportive to me and all of our siblings and cousins.
If we start counting up your achievements, the list will go so long. But which achievement for you was the most satisfactory and why?
Three of my achievements matters a lot to me and they were also the most satisfactory. The first one is winning a gold medal at Senior Shooting World Cup in Mexico when I was just 16. The second one is winning gold at Commonwealth Games with several records. And the third one is winning gold in the world cup finals by beating China in China.
